Life and Times (Pt. III)

Recording continues. The closer I get to finishing the slower the progress seems to be, however I think I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I’ve got about ten tracks into their semi-final stages, with two tracks left to go. I’ve left doing proper lead vocal takes to the very end, which is proving frustrating. Voice isn’t like guitar, its not three takes and you’re done, its like twelve takes and you’re still not there.

Working solely on my own has been both equal measures of liberation and frustration. On the bright-side, the creative process is seamless, there isn’t any checking with the band, or clashing of ideas, its just like: “I want a snare roll there” – on the other hand, when you become stuck with a track or a part, there is no outside influence to push you somewhere you hadn’t planned harmonicallymelodically.

The Life and Times (Cont.)

So recording continues. I went through a pretty rough few days recently, were nothing seemed to be working. It was incredibly frustrating but I think I’ve come out the tail-end of that, putting together a combination new-old song called ‘Top of the World’ which I’m quite pleased with. So it looks like I’ve got three tracks left before I’m finished (two if I use the old one-take version of ‘Modern Living’ which remains possible).

I’m going to try and enlist some pro-bono help mixing the tracks then I think I’ll get it professionally mastered. Hopefully I will be distributing it by late January.

My first novel still lies unedited, I intend to return and finish that particular everest, but I’m also quite set on making a little animation to enter into a local film festival called TropFest. So that first then novel :)

The count-down to my 21st ticks over – December has begun / Nine days now / Until I’m twenty-one. Anyways enough rhyming, its 2am so I should go to sleep (the recording process has played relativity games with my body-clock).
