All Tomorrows Parties

I went to the All Tomorrows Parties festival on Cockatoo Island today. For those unaware, ATP involves one high profile musicanartistcreative curating the festival, choosing acts without worrying about ticket sales, theme or genre. The ATP I attended was curated by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds. The diversity of acts was great, from old bluesmen, to Mediterranean folk, to kraut electronica, to Japanese all-girl hardcore experiments. However, although I found many of the acts interesting for about twenty minutes, almost all of them failed to hold my attention.

Nick Cave and his Bad Seeds were a different story though. I’ve tried listening to Cave’s music before but it never really clicked with me, tonight though, I am officially converted to the church of Cave. The whole day was worth it, just to see their performance. It was truly a brilliant show, on all levels, as showmanship, intelligence, musicality and wit. Cave and the Bad Seeds absolutely deserve their place, hats off to them.
